About Fortrin coaching
Fortrin coaching was founded by Aaron Bleakley. Aaron started racing bmx at age 8, then moved onto road cycling just before high school. Successful at school, regional and national level, Aaron started mountain biking in the early 90's.

An accident in 2001 and retirement from cycling, had Aaron ballooning out to 150kg. After taking the sport up again in 2009, he is now back racing at a high level in mountain biking, cyclocross, and road racing.

Our services are not location specific, so you can take advantage of our coaching / training plans from anywhere in New Zealand or overseas. With the help of technology, regular catch ups are effortless regardless of where you are. For the majority of the year we are based in Marlborough (NZ).

All our coaches have a large theoretical knowledge and understanding of the latest research in exercise physiology, and have learnt from participation in their own sport at a high level, as well as their experiences in coaching.

Coaching philosophy
Coaching is about much more than simply handing out training plans. Any athlete from beginner to elite face challenges, such as  fitting in exercise into a busy lifestyle, returning to a sport after some absence or injury, or keeping up motivation.  Beginners may need more direction, where elite athletes already have the basic skills and are looking for the finishing touches- this is why we have a flat rate for all athletes- everyone needs to be looked after with the same detail, but in different areas.

Good two-way communication and regular catch ups are essential for any coaching relationship and for tailoring training plans to fit your needs. To optimise your value from our services we have a policy of unlimited athlete initiated contact. We feel that a good coach/athlete rapport is essential, and a major component for success.

The level of technology used for training can range between time/distance monitoring through to power-meters. There are no pre-requisites, as effective improvements can be made with any equipment. However, if there is a specific requirement that will make your training more effective, we will advise you on the best way forward and teach you how to use the new resource.

Disciplines catered for
Athletes currently coached are improving their fitness and skills within the disciplines of mountain biking (XC,Enduro, Downhill), road cycling (incl. time-trialing), cyclocross, running (on and off road) and multi-sport. However, if you have any other requirements we are keen to discuss how we can help.

We advise on all the specific requirements for each sport from technique, strength training, nutrition, lifestyle managment, and psychology.
